out with the old & in with the new

As 2012 comes to an end, i thought i'd recap my top 12 moments in 2012. This year has been full of laughs, tears, fun, happiness, new experiences, and bittersweet moments. So without further adieu, here they are.

1. The week we spent in Oceanside,CA with my family and cousins

2. Homecoming with my awesome friend Tanner Lundeen. It was by far the best high school dance eva.

3. Going on the trek in Wyoming with my stake. And one of the best parts of the trip was when i got to line dance with my dad... {he's kinda the best}

 4. Going to GHA for a week and making some really good friends

5. Easter celebrations with my fam. This is also the day that Kassara and I got left behind at the movie theaters and pretty much had to walk to the farm.
6. Going to Girls State, staying up all night, dancing in the halls, and scaring people half to death by hiding under the bunk-beds.
7. Last day of school, graduation, Senior Sunrise

^^and the ever so lovely closed-eye pictures when the camera's flash is brighter than shelby's skin ;)
8. My sister's wedding
9. Trip to Temple Square with the family
10. Deer hunting with the Stratton family minus Kassara

11. Softball season
12. and the finale, Quality and Quantity... ;)

So there it is folks. Hopefully 2013 will be just as good {hopefully a tad better}.

As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a great end of 2012 and start of 2013

Christmas Excitement Update

It's been awhile since I updated you on all my craziness, so I thought I would fill you in on what I've been up to this holiday season.

Saturday night we had the first ever Stratton girl cousin Ugly Sweater party, and it was spectacular. We ate crepes and fruit, played games, and did a gift exchange. We looked pretty spiffy dont you think?! It was definitely a memory for the books and we're gonna try to keep this newly implemented get-together a tradition.

On Christmas Eve, we had the traditional swedish ebelskiever breakfast {my great grandma immigrated to the United States from Sweden} and then spent the day together playing games and getting dinner ready. We had quite the feast! Caitlin and Charles came over for the festivities and we had a most splendid evening. Then after C&C had left and we had put some "reindeer food" on the lawn, we all settled down for our long winters nap. Dad read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and all the kids slept in the guest room.

Although somehow I went through all of Christmas day without taking any pictures, it was great as well. We went to my Grandma Strattons and had Christmas breakfast and exchanged gifts.

I've had a wonderful christmas break so far, have you?
I hope you have a splendid new year, and that you get to spend some time with your loved ones.

A & A

AWKWARD:

  • I think i just had the impossible happen to me, and it happened like this: Today i was walking to my Statistics class, just minding my own business, when suddenly i find myself trapped in a hug. As in two people went to hug and somehow i ended up between both of them like some twisted game of "Captains Coming". Anywho, we were all pretty confused as to how this freak event came about, and i got out of their love embrace just as quickly as i could! This probably is in the Top 10 Most Awkward Moments of my young life.
  • My friend and I were texting during Seminary {we sit next to each other, but talking to him across the aisle is so old school! ;) } and having a grand old time until this tiny blonde girl, who is the most saintly human being i know, gave us the biggest scowl i have EVER seen. I mean, she could make a nun repent with that scowl. I felt instantly like i had done the unpardonable sin and for the rest of class was scared to put one toe out of line. Sad that i can be controlled by a girl who is 5'2 and could blow away in a windstorm.
  • Going through a whole school day with "Pick Up Dyl" on the side of my face because i had forgotten about the freshly written note i had written on the back of my hand, when i decided to take a nap in Government. Good to know i have such great friends who don't tell me that i look like a freakishly tattooed mutant until AFTER school is over. Hooray!
  • Conversations that go like this:
-Sam: Are those Ugg Boots?            -Me: Thanks!

AWESOME:

  • Only 10 more days of school!!! Only 5 more days of US Government! Only 5 more days of Financial Literature!!
  • I'm having an ugly sweater party. And i am stoked. My inner pinterest addict is coming out and i just want to fill my life with making cutesey banners and treats and decorating with ten pounds of tinsel and peppermint sticks. It's going to be legit.
  • I got my guitar back! It's been a long distance relationship between the two of us while lil bro used it for his guitar class, but we were reunited this weekend. And boy did we bring the house down last night! We were a john mayer/adele/maroon 5 machine!
  •  I got all the applying for college bologna done with and its such a relief! No more essays about "What events have shaped your life!" No more filling out applications and trying to remember anything in my life that qualifies as impressive! It's like Christmas came early people.
  • I'm listening to Frank Sinatra on Pandora. And what could get more awesome than that?
Isn't life grand? and awkward? and sometimes the most hilarious thing?
I love it.
And i love you. So visit again (:

just some JOY

Today I've been thinking a lot about the word JOY.

Webster defines JOY as:
the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the
prospect of possessing what one desires; a source or cause of delight.

While that definition pretty much nails it right on the head,
I think i'll make up my own personalized
version of what JOY is.

JOY is:
stepping on crunchy leaves
getting tight hugs
listening to children giggle
a gooey smore
driving with the windows down
bike rides through the orchard
wishing on dandelions
speaking in an Australian accent
country music + waffles on a Saturday morning
crisp morning runs
listening to john mayer
sliding on the hardwood floor in our socks
turning on the heater
seeing others truly happy
holding a brand new baby
watching cartoons on a Saturday morning, just like when I was a kid
when Pandora plays six of your favorite songs in a row
homemade waffle cones
feeling the spirit
reconnecting with someone you love
listening to my great grandma laugh
laying under the Christmas tree
going ice skating with friends
clean sheets on my bed
playing the guitar on Sunday afternoons
being around those i love

...and the list could go on. I really have so many great things in my life that bring me joy. I am so grateful for all the many blessings that i have. This Christmas Season, I hope you'll stop and think about all the things that bring you pure JOY.

Thanksgiving Celebrations

Thanksgiving this year was one of the best. We spent it in Riverton, Utah with the Pearson side of the family. The weekend was full of laughs and memories...and of course FOOD!

One of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving was picking up my great grandma Helen Jones from her home in Magna, UT. She is 95 and still full of spunk and mischief. I loved getting to visit with her and hear about her families' traditions from when she was a girl growing up in the 1920's.

Another highlight was playing the "Candy Bar Game" with all of the relatives. As always, Shirley and Grandma Jones had all the luck, and rolled one every time!!! I think traditions are some of the best things we have in life.

We also had our annual Turkey Bowl football game in Grandma's backyard, and although the game went into overtime, the girls pulled out the win and were awarded the Magna Elementary School Flipper Bowl trophy. [we use the flipper bowl one because that's all we got... and we had to make do].

Another highlight of the trip was going into Salt Lake City to see the lights at Temple Square. While we were waiting for it to be time, we browsed through the shops in the new City Creek Center. Our favorites were the candy windows in the old ZCMI building. The ornaments are made completely out of candy!

Finally it was time for the lights to come on, and boy were they beautiful. Temple Square was lit up by thousands of tiny lights, and I never wanted to leave.

Beautiful right??!!! I wish every time i looked out the window this is the view i had!!

All in all, our Thanksgiving weekend was one that will never be forgotten. I am so thankful for my wonderful family, because without them i could not keep going. I am also very grateful for the church and temples.

Have a wonderful end of November!
